Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth: which park should you choose?

If you only have time for one, this is the question we get asked most often — and the answer depends almost entirely on what kind of traveller you are.

Choose Murchison Falls if…

You want scale and drama. It is Uganda’s largest park, the falls are genuinely spectacular, and the Nile Delta boat trip is the best place in the country to see a shoebill. Expect longer drives and fewer vehicles.

Choose Queen Elizabeth if…

You want variety in a compact area. Kazinga Channel cruise, tree-climbing lions, chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge and 600 bird species — all within an hour or two of each other.

Or do both

With eight days or more you can combine them comfortably, and the drive between — through the Rift escarpment and the tea estates of Fort Portal — is one of our favourite days on the road.
