Queen Elizabeth National Park sprawls across 1,978 square kilometres between the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Edward. Its ecosystems range from open savanna and crater lakes to papyrus swamp and riverine forest — which is why it holds more than 95 mammal species and an astonishing 600-plus birds.

The Ishasha sector in the south is famous for lions that climb fig trees in the heat of the day, while the Kazinga Channel boat cruise delivers elephants, buffalo and hippos shoulder to shoulder along the water’s edge.
