Standing at the point where Lake Victoria empties into the Nile is a strange experience: the water is calm, the islands are close, and from here it flows 6,650 kilometres to the Mediterranean.
What to do in Jinja
- Take a boat to the Speke monument at the Source
- Raft the grade five rapids below Bujagali
- Bungee jump over the river (or watch someone else do it)
- Cycle the dirt roads on the eastern bank
- Take a sunset cruise with a cold Nile Special
- Eat rolex at the taxi park like everybody else
Two hours from Kampala and a world away from the savanna parks — Jinja deserves more than a half-day stop.
