Uganda has two dry seasons — roughly December to February and June to September — and most operators will tell you those are the only months worth considering. They are not wrong, but they are also not telling you the whole story.
The dry season case
In January and February the trails in Bwindi are firmer, the leeches are fewer and the photography is easier. Permits sell out four to eight months ahead, particularly for Buhoma and Rushaga.
The green season case
Between March and May, and again in October and November, the forest is at its most beautiful, the gorillas often stay lower on the slopes (shorter treks) and you will share the experience with far fewer people. You will also get wet. Bring proper waterproofs and a dry bag.
What we actually recommend
If you can only travel once, aim for late January or early September. You get mostly dry weather and the shoulder-season quiet. And whatever month you choose, book the permit first — everything else can follow.
