Kibale protects 795 square kilometres of moist evergreen forest and holds the highest density and diversity of primates anywhere in Africa. Around 1,500 chimpanzees live here, and the habituated Kanyanchu community offers one of the most reliable chimpanzee tracking experiences on the continent.
Just outside the park, the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary boardwalk is a triumph of community conservation, with 138 bird species and eight primates recorded in a swamp most visitors would otherwise drive straight past.
